Going Green

Both Locum Medical and our parent company, Randstad Professionals, U.S., have a strong focus on corporate social responsibility and have developed employee-based teams to plan and execute on initiatives in Environment Sustainability and Community Giving.

The Think + Go Green team was starting in May of 2008 to foster staff commitment to a cleaner environment in the workplace and at home by promoting environmental consciousness and eco-friendliness in our work and personal lifestyles.

Locum Medical has reduced our carbon footprint

  • Over 300 names have been removed from junk email lists

  • Employees have registered to receive the W-2's electronically

  • Each month an E-Newsletter is sent to employees containing tips and information about how to live a 'greener' life. Employees also are featured in the E-Newsletter and share the ways they go green at home.

  • Employees opted to curtail their use of plastic and Styrofoam kitchenware, electing instead to bring in extra silverware, cups and plates for staff use.

  • New hires will receive an email with their new hire information instead of receiving a printed packet, saving 60 pages for each new hire

  • Consider the environment before printing this e-mail: has been added to all of our e-mail signatures reminding others to consider what really needs to be printed

  • Hand soap, dish soap and other eco-friendly cleaning products are now being used throughout the office

  • As part of the team's kick off, each employee received a dishwasher safe cup made from recycled plastic

  • The office uses recycled printer cartridges and toner

  • Recycling bins in the lunchroom and mailroom have been filling up each week

  • Our Lead Coordinator and other employees use a dual monitor system to reduce the amount of pages printed

  • 130 fluorescent light bulbs have been removed from the office. Instead of having 3 light bulbs in every light box, Locum Medical only uses 2 light bulbs.

  • Shred bins have been placed under each employee's desk to collect papers throughout the day. At the end of each day, the bins are emptied into our shred containers. Once shredded, the paper is taken to a recycling facility.

  • Light covers have been created to help everyone to remember to turn the lights off when the rooms are not in use

  • For one hour on Fridays, the employees with the outside offices have been turning their lights off to conserve energy. Some employees choose to keep their lights off every day!

  • 2,308 gallons of tap water has been filtered through the water cooler in the kitchen. By using this eco-friendly water filter, Locum Medical has eliminated almost 462 plastic water jugs from going to waste. The amount of gas used and pollutants to the environment has also been reduced since the jugs don't need to be delivered to our building anymore.

  • Notepads are made from printer and copier mishaps from the office
